Where We Practice

Warhawk Crew rows from the Sandy Run Regional Park boathouse, where we share space with several other local high schools.

Located at 10450 Van Thompson Road, Fairfax Station, VA, 22039, Sandy Run is on the banks of the Occoquan River, where our rowers routinely spot blue herons, snowy egrets, loons, and even nesting Bald Eagles. Once spring rowing begins, the team stays in shape by not only rowing, but by running some of the beautiful trails the park affords.

Sandy Run is ~20 miles from James Madison High School down Route 123 (Ox Road), and the team organizes a bus to transport rowers to and from the river after school during the spring season (weekdays only). The bus is included in the membership dues. Alternatively, to riding the bus, athletes can carpool, but carpools are not organized by the team.

Sandy Run is one of the finest rowing facilities on the East Coast. It has been the site of the Olympic canoe and kayak trials, several Scholastic Rowing Association of America Championship events, and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship Regattas. It is also used for college and masters rowing and racing.
