Regatta 101

What to bring

Athletes

  • YOUR UNIS! Your boat cannot race without them unless VASRA has announced a weather waiver, and yes, it happens that rowers forget. Bring your tech shirts as well for cold days. Bring them even if you're not scheduled to race, just in case.
  • All the things you normally bring to practice - a full water bottle, SUNSCREEN, and snacks for the day. Also bring layers of dry clothing for in between races.
  • Extra roll of toilet paper - the port-a-potties run out around 11 a.m.
  • Money to purchase regatta swag or snacks.

Parents

  • Your Warhawk Crew swag to wear!
  • Your Warhawk Crew cowbell to make some noise!
  • Folding chairs, stadium seat cushions, or a blanket to sit on (the grandstands are concrete)
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, & hat
  • Binoculars & camera
  • Snacks & water
  • Tissues & hand sanitizer
  • A book or reading materials for in between races
  • Umbrellas or other rain gear if it looks cloudy — weather changes quickly at the river, and the grandstand sunshade is not water-tight.
  • Cash:  It's a good idea to have cash on hand before you head to Sandy Run - the shuttle to the grandstands, plus regatta T-shirts & concessions, all take cash.  Small bills are preferred.

What not to bring
DOGS!  No dogs are allowed in the park on regatta days.  You also may not leave your dog in your car.  Even small dogs should be left at home.
