Madison Crew, known affectionately as MadCrew, is a club sport affiliated with James Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia. The co-ed team is comprised of more than 75 athletes who train out of Sandy Run Regional Park located along the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station, Virginia, and compete at local, regional, and national events.
No prior rowing experience is necessary to join the team and there are no try-outs. Rowers receive instruction from a team of renowned coaches who work hard to keep the Madison Crew program strong and help each rower to realize his or her potential. The coaches strive to ensure that all rowers compete at all local regattas.
Since the team was founded in 2002, we have won numerous state championships and national medals. Our successful program has launched alumni into rowing and coxing with national and college teams. In recent years, MadCrew graduates have rowed for Stanford, Duke, Georgetown, Syracuse, UVA, GMU, UCLA, West Point, and the Coast Guard Academy, to name just a few.
The crew program is managed and run by the Board of Directors of the James Madison Crew Boosters Organization (JMCBO), a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. As a club sport, MadCrew does not receive financial support from the school system. JMCBO funds scholastic rowing through dues and fundraising activities. Rowers and parents are expected to honor financial, volunteer, and conduct agreements.
