Yorktown Relays: 26 varsity rowers (16 women and 10 men) participated in the 2012 Yorktown Relays. Congratulations to the team for a strong showing. The Madison women dominated the 2x750 event, taking first (Georgia and Carolina Ratcliff), 2nd (Karen Munyon and Zoe Kalousis) and 3rd place (Grace Williams and Caroline Comey), taking first in the 4x500 (C&G Ratcliff, Kalousis, Munyon) and the 8x250 (Karen, Zoe, Grace, Caroline, Lexy, Hannah, Carolina, Georgia). The girls also won the girls team points trophy. The men placed in the varsity 8x250, taking third (Matt Weiner, Robert Bussman, David Ritter, James Carlisle, Timmy Springsteen, Michael Wascom, Thomson Rymer and Jack Lowe). Participating schools were: Yorktown, McLean, Whitman, O'Connell, TC Williams, Lake Braddock, Thomas Jefferson, Fairfax, Oakton and Madison.
MidAtlantic Sprints: Congratulations to all the MAD Rowers who participated in the Mid Atlantic Erg Sprints, particularly Georgia and Carolina Ratcliff and Karen Munyon who took firsts in their events.
On the men’s side of the team, David Mottola took 3rd in his event (2000M LT age 17-19), Robert Bussman 4th (2000M age 18-19), Timothy Springsteen, 6th place tie (1500M, LT, age 15-16), David Ritter, 10th place (2000M, age 17), and Gregory Blasz, 14th place (age 14, 1000M). Most of these events had between 60 and 90 rowers in them!
Georgia Ratcliff took first place (2000M, age 17), and Caroline Comey and Genny Lawless took 8th and 12th in a field that included 80 rowers. In the age 15 1500M, Carolina Ratcliff and Zoe Kalousis took the first and second positions. Karen Munyon took # 1 in the age 16 1500M, followed by Lexy Shannon (8th). Two Madison rowers finished in the top 10 of the woman’s 17-19 LT 2000M (Hannah Brown in 4th and Kaitlin Carlisle as 8th). In the LT 1500M, age 15-16, 2 Madison rowers finished in the top 15 percent (Caroline Thomas at 9th and Marissa Patrick, 12th). Grace Williams took 5th in the 20 minute row.
Congratulations too to Coach Jesse Clark, who took 2nd place in the Men’s 500M sprint and 7th in the Open Mens 2000M!
