Mulch Sale Information

The Mulch Sale is the primary fundraiser for the Club, and enables us to add to the Club’s Capital Budget, which allows for payment of coaches, and purchase of new shells, oars, cox boxes, etc. This is our final fundraiser of the year, and your last opportunity to satisfy your rower’s $600 fundraising commitment.
Unlike some other fundraisers, this sale serves a public need - previous customers ask us when the mulch sale is going to begin!! Our mulch sale offers tremendous value: same price the customer would pay at the nursery, but FREE DELIVERY for all orders of 15 bags or more (Vienna and Oakton only)!!
We lost a week due to the snow…you only have 3 weekends (counting this one) to sell mulch…so get going now!
Key Dates:

• Mulch Sales: February 11, 2010 – March 13, 2010
• Delivery Dates:
o Saturday, March 27, 2010 (if necessary - would be afternoon only)
o Sunday, March 28, 2010 (Sunday prior to Spring Break)

• Delivery is ALL HANDS – Mandatory Rower Attendance. Rowers (and Parents) are asked to sign up for a morning or afternoon shift (or both, please!)
• Parents STRONGLY encouraged to attend – PLEASE!! We cannot pull this off without strong parent support on delivery day!!

Sales Tools:
• The Mulch Flyer is the order form
o The flyer is included with this communication as a separate attachment
o MUST put rower name on upper right hand corner of mulch flyer to ensure correct rower gets credit.
o Download mulch flyer and type in rower name using this link:
o Or write rower name on mulch flyers received in packet and make copies.
o Customers can give mulch order form to rower with check/cash, or can mail in mulch order form with payment to address on mulch flyer.
• Mulch Sales Note can be personalized and used to accompany flyer and stuff in mailboxes
o This note is also attached…just open it and personalize it to your rower.

Other Important Information:
• Mulch provided by Merrifield Nursery
• High quality mountain top shredded hardwood mulch
• Three Cubic Feet bags for $4.50 per bag
o $4.25 per bag if 50 bags or more
• COMPARE: Many large garden centers sell 2 Cubic foot bags of mulch for $4.50 per bag
• BEST PART: Free Delivery if 15 bags or more are ordered (Vienna and Oakton only)!!!
Rower Compensation/Credit:
Rowers will receive credit toward their fundraising commitment of APPROXIMATELY $1.75 – 2.25 per bag of mulch sold. The more bags the club sells, the more each rower will receive per bag (fixed costs will be spread accordingly). So, if you have $300 fundraising commitment remaining, your rower must sell approximately 150 bags of mulch (sell extra just in case!!).
