The Occoquan Boat Club (OBC) is pleased to open the applications for the
2011-2012 Julia Shew Memorial Rowing Scholarship. This scholarship is sponsored by the Occoquan Boat Club through its summer fundraising regatta and private donations. The proceeds of the race are solely dedicated to helping interested high school rowers and coxswains who want to participate, but find the expenses prohibitive. This scholarship is available to those schools that are housed and row on the Occoquan (Oxford House, Sandy Run and Bull Run facilities).

A couple of important pieces of information about this year's scholarship:
- The deadline for Season requests is DECEMBER 3
- The anticipated award range is $200-$400, but that depends on the number of requests
- ALL Sections of the application must be COMPLETE. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- A recommendation attesting to the athlete's ability, interest and financial need must accompany the application and be from the Coach, Booster President or Athletic Director.
- Signatures must also be completed by the athlete, their parent/guardian and their coach, plus the Athletic Director or Booster President.
Schools are not limited to the number of requests, this may evolve as OBC gains more experience in making awards. The process is totally confidential, no personal information will be used for any publicity or fundraising purposes. Awards will be made within 2 weeks; athletes and families will be notified; payments will be made to the Booster Club.
OBC had a successful year last season and hopes to help your athletes out again.
